Mid-Level Backend Software Engineer

Analyzen Bangladesh Ltd. is looking for a Mid-Level Backend Software Engineer who can take backend features from requirement to production, solve complex issues in live systems, and contribute to technical decisions. You will work across our Laravel/MySQL platforms, including CMS-driven websites, a user access management API, and a multi-role web portal, as well as Node.js services built on NestJS and Express. You will lead a small backend team, work closely with frontend developers on React and Next.js integrations, and guide junior developers through code reviews and day-to-day technical support. The role combines hands-on development with team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently design, build, and deliver backend features and modules in Laravel applications, from requirement analysis to deployment.
• Design and document REST APIs (endpoints, request/response contracts, error handling, and versioning) for Next.js and React frontends and for service-to-service communication.
• Work with frontend developers on React and Next.js integrations, and debug issues across the frontend and backend.
• Analyze and improve database performance through slow-query analysis, indexing, query refactoring, and sound schema design in MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues across the application, database, and server layers, find the root cause, and implement lasting fixes.
• Be reachable occasionally, to help resolve urgent issues on live client projects including outside regular office hours when the situation genuinely requires it.
• Implement and maintain application security, including authentication, role-based access control, input validation, and secure data handling on multi-role platforms.
• Maintain and enhance Node.js services (NestJS, Express) alongside the PHP codebase, and coordinate schema changes where a Node.js service and a Laravel application share the same database.
• Manage code and releases across multi-site and multi-region deployments, following the agreed branching strategy.
• Review code for quality, security, and performance, and help maintain team coding standards.
• Use AI coding and agentic tools to speed up delivery, and set team guidelines for effective, safe AI-assisted development.
• Contribute to technical decisions such as refactoring priorities, library choices, and implementation approaches; provide estimates and flag risks early.
• Lead a small backend team: break down requirements, assign and track tasks, unblock team members, and make sure features ship on time and to standard.
• Mentor junior developers through code reviews, pairing, and practical technical guidance.
• Write and maintain technical documentation for the systems you work on.

Key Requirements:

• 4–6 years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Substantial hands-on experience building and maintaining PHP/Laravel applications in production.
• Proven experience delivering backend features independently and supporting live applications used by real customers.
• Hands-on experience integrating backends with React-based frontends.
• Experience leading a small development team or a project's backend workstream, including task planning, code reviews, and delivery tracking.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Equivalent, proven professional experience will be considered in place of a related degree.
• Takes ownership of work from start to finish and communicates progress, risks, and delays early.
• Leads by example: sets clear expectations, holds the team to quality standards, and supports team members when problems arise.
• Explains technical trade-offs clearly to developers, project managers, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Gives constructive, respectful code review feedback and is patient when guiding junior developers.
• Balances quick fixes for live issues with long-term code quality.
• Works well with frontend developers, QA, and project managers.

Required Technical Skills:

• PHP: Strong core PHP, including object-oriented design, SOLID principles, and common design patterns, plus the ability to work confidently in legacy or non-framework PHP code.
• Laravel: In-depth experience with the service container, Eloquent (including relationships and query optimization), queues, events, middleware, API resources, and testing.
• MySQL: Strong skills in query optimization (including EXPLAIN), indexing, transactions, schema design, and running migrations safely on live data.
• API design: Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs, including token-based API authentication (for example Sanctum, Passport, or JWT).
• Security: Good understanding of the OWASP Top 10 and practical experience implementing role-based access control.
• Production support: Experience debugging and maintaining live applications using logs, profiling, and caching strategies to resolve performance problems.
• React and frontend integration: Solid working knowledge of React and Next.js, and proven experience integrating backends with them, including API contracts, authentication flows, data fetching, and CORS.
• Blade: Working knowledge of Blade templates for server-rendered pages and admin dashboards.
• Git: Advanced Git knowledge, including branching strategies, managing multiple long-lived branches (for example, per site or per region), rebasing, cherry-picking, resolving complex conflicts, and setting pull request and review practices for the team.
• AI-assisted and agentic coding: Proficient with AI coding assistants and agentic tools (such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot agent mode). Strong prompt engineering skills: you give clear context, break work into well-defined tasks for AI agents, and rigorously review AI output for correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Team leadership: Proven experience leading a small development team, including planning and assigning work, reviewing code, resolving technical blockers, and coordinating with project managers and frontend teams.

Preferred Skills:

• Hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript backend development, especially NestJS or Express (a strong advantage).
• Experience with PostgreSQL.
• Experience with MongoDB.
• Experience with Docker, Apache or Nginx, Linux server environments, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit or Pest for PHP; Jest for Node.js).
• Experience with a headless CMS such as Payload, or with a Laravel-based CMS or admin generator.
• Experience integrating third-party services such as SMS and messaging gateways or payment providers.
